Gate 36 – The Darkening of the Light

The desire that seeks the unknown.

Solar Plexus Center · Channel 35-36 (Transitoriness) · Collective Circuit (Understanding)

Gate 36 sits in the Solar Plexus Center and carries an intense emotional quality: the desire for what has not yet been lived. Not desire for a specific object — but for the experience of the unknown, for contact with what lies beyond what has already been charted. Those who have this Gate active have an instinctive draw toward what is new, what challenges, what has no name yet — and the crisis is often the entry point: the moment of turbulence that opens into the experience life has to offer beyond what was visible before.

In Channel 35-36 — Transitoriness —, Gate 36 pairs with Gate 35 (Change), which sits in the Throat Center. Gate 35 holds the expression of movement toward new experiences; Gate 36 carries the emotional desire that drives that search. Together they form the channel of the being in pursuit of experience: the emotional impulse toward the new (36) + the voice that expresses that movement to the field (35). Within the Collective Circuit, what is lived through the Channel of Transitoriness contributes to the human repertoire — the crises and unknowns faced here have the potential to expand what is possible for others.

The challenge of Gate 36 is crisis as destination rather than portal. When the desire for the unknown becomes addictive — when a person creates or sustains crisis situations because the emotional intensity they generate is the only way to feel alive —, Gate 36 is operating in its shadow. The emotional wave of this Gate has intense swings: the moments of hope and those of pain can be equally overwhelming. The gift is the honored crisis: the moment of darkness that is not avoided, but moved through with presence, emerging on the other side with something that did not exist before.
